Our Mission

ARZA strengthens and enriches the Jewish identity of Reform Jews in the United States by ensuring that a connection with Eretz Yisrael is a fundamental part of that identity.

ARZA develops support for and strengthens the Reform movement in Israel and promotes advocacy for a Jewish, pluralistic, just and democratic society in the State of Israel.

ARZA links the people and institutions of the Reform Movements in Israel and the United States, informed by a love of Israel and a belief in K’lal Yisrael – Jewish peoplehood.

ARZA works in partnership with the Union for Reform Judaism (URJ) and the Israel Movement for Progressive Judaism (IMPJ), and their affiliates. ARZA represents United States Reform Jews in national and international Zionist organizations.

ARZA's Action Statement

ARZA pursues its mission through action in eight core areas:

(1) Educating, advocating, and creating partnerships on behalf of Israel within the URJ family to help ensure that Israel and engagement with Zionism remain an important part of Reform Jewish identity and education in the United States.

(2) Conducting a development and resources campaign that is a significant source of support for the IMPJ and the Israel Religious Action Center (IRAC), and their activities in Israel.

(3) Encouraging and supporting meaningful travel to Israel.

(4) Strengthening and building relationships among individuals and Reform communities in the United States and Israel.

(5) Advocating for and enhancing the State of Israel as a Jewish, pluralistic, just and democratic society.

(6) Partnering, coordinating and working with the institutions of Reform Judaism in the United States and Israel, including the URJ and the IMPJ and their affiliates, such as IRAC, on matters relating to Israel and Zionism.

(7) Representing United States Reform Jews and their interests to, and in partnership with, national and international Zionist organizations, including ARZENU, the Jewish Agency for Israel, the American Zionist Movement, the World Zionist Organization, and the Jewish National Fund.

(8) Studying, through ARZA’s Institute for Reform Zionism and other means, the evolving nature of 21st Century Reform Zionism and the relationship of the United States Reform Jews, individually, congregationally, and as a Movement, with Israel.
